Artesian Time Tunnel& Museum Heritage Exhibition

When you visit Cunnamulla you will be standing on the world's largest underground river. In 1887 at Thurlugoona near Cunnamulla the first flow of artesian water in Queensland was struck.

The Artesian Time Tunnel experience simulates time travel back 100 million years to the beginnings of the Great Artesian Basin, which predates the formation of Opal and the Age of Mammals.

The Artesian Time Tunnel continues to entertain and educate visitors to Cunnamulla. Stage two of the attraction will feature Pre-European history and Dreamtime stories of local Aboriginal tribes.

The Culture Theatre

The new Culture Theatre features the 'Water Down Under' story of the Great Artesian Basin acknowledging Aboriginal peoples connection to country and the importance of water for life, lifestyle and industry in outback Queensland.

The Museum showcases the heritage and rich history of Cunnamulla and the Paroo Shire with rare artefacts and memorabilia on display.

Art Gallery

Our Art Gallery is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.00pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 1.30pm.

The current 'Showtime' Exhibition features local arts and crafts and continues until 6 July 2010.

In previous Exhibitions we have enjoyed:

A selection of Cathy Carson pastels, which concluded in May 2010.

An Exhibition of Tony Mallon sculptures, supported by canvas and framed art prints by well-known Lightning Ridge artist John Murray.

Returning by popular demand, the 'Landscape, Culture and Colour' exhibition by Geoff Manthey was a big hit. Geoff is a descendent of the Kooma tribe of south west Queensland. He draws his inspiration from the Elders of his tribe who taught him how to swim, fish and hunt and the stories and knowledge passed down to him through the generations. The Exhibition also featured Garry Berghoffer's display of beautiful opal jewellery. Discover the magic of the boulder and ironstone opal, Australia's national gemstone, mined locally at Yowah and Koroit.

During May 2009, we enjoyed a selection of local art and craft demonstrating the range of talents within our own remote community.

"Nash Snider" inspired us with his work during a two month exhibition which closed on 27 May 2009.

"Geoff Manthey presented his "Coolibah Calling" Exhibition. It was named after the Coolibah Tree in front of the Cunnamulla Fella Centre in which Geoff's Brother had built a tree house. They would hide in the Tree House if they were in trouble at Home. Geoff is a descendent of the Kooma tribe and grew up in Cunnamulla. Fellow Aborigional artists taught Geoff how to tell his own stories through the media of Canvas . As well as canvas, Geoff's works include genuine boomerangs and didgeridoos. Over 70 per cent of works were sold during the exhibition.

Cathy Carsons "Images of the Bush" Exhibition was a great success with several Paintings being sold. The official opening was featured in Queensland Country Life.

The Inaugural Exhibition of acrylic works "In A Cloud Of Red Dust" by talented local artist Peta Warner attracted large numbers to the centre. Art buffs and non buffs alike were in awe of the size and quality of this highly unique exhibition depicting life in Outback Queensland.
